Dear Maud

Our story

'Mr. Yeats makes great poetry out of what he calls his unhappiness about me, and he is happy in that!' —Maud Gonne Nestled in the middle of 1st Street between Park Avenue and Garden Street, sits Dear Maud in downtown Hoboken. Deriving influence from Jackdaw, our original East Village NY location, Dear Maud was born of the same inspirations invoked by Irish poet, W. B. Yeats

'The troubling of my life began...' are the words used by W.B. Yeats to describe his first encounter with Maud Gonne, the unrequited love of his life. Famously recounted in their history are the many letters Yeats wrote to the renowned Irish activist. Yeats began each correspondence, 'My Dear Maud'. He was persistent in his declarations of love for Gonne, even proposing 3 times, all met with rejection. Gonne was notoriously quoted; 'Poets should never marry. The world should thank me for not marrying you.'

The local neighborhood charm that fills the streets of Hoboken mirrors that of home. Dear Maud introduces a cocktail and food experience developed in NYC, extending from our origins in Sligo, Ireland. We keep organic and fresh ingredients at the core of our menu and a welcoming staff and lively ambiance at the core of who we are.

We look forward to pleasing the neighborhood and afar.
